Latin America’s vast and varied habitats, ranging from rainforests to grasslands and wetlands, and from endless seashores and islands to the mighty Andean range, are home to a wide array of iconic species including Jaguar, Giant Otter, Tapir, Puma, Southern Elephant Seal and Orca to name but a few.”

According to Mammal Diversity Database (MDD), there are roughly 1,617 species of mammals in the Neotropics, making of this region the one with the highest number of species on Earth, followed by the Afrotropical region with 1,572.
